Question Four

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Examples of the points I was making in the video.

Magazine Advert

This is my magazine advert, in the image above it shows how step by step I got to the final product. The way in which I did this was by getting a blank document open on Photoshop, I then opened one of the pictures that I wanted to use and then cropped it in Photoshop and placed it onto the plain document. I then got the text that I wanted and that I was going to use, the surrounding area of the image that I did not need had already been erased away because I had to do that for my Digipak. I then dragged the text on to the document and placed it where I felt was necessary. I slowly started to put different headings onto the document to slowly turn it into the magazine advert.

The Title that is on my Digipak and Magazine Advert

I got the text that I wanted off Da Fonts which is a website which has over 1000 different fronts that I could choose from. The reason why I chose the font that I did was because I wanted it to be bold and for it to stand out. The steps in which I went through to get the text just by itself and not surround buy the entire unwanted image. I copied the image onto Photoshop and started to erase around the outside of the text, making sure that I had a steady hand and that I did not go over any of the text that I wanted. Once I had done that I then zoomed in to make sure that the entire unwanted image behind the text had gone. I then opened a new document and copied the text onto it and then I had my text ready to use for my Digipak and my Magazine advert.

This is a step by step shot of how I drew on the picture of my model.

This is the step by step of the pictures that i used for my front cover of my digi-pack. I used to original photo, then photoshoped it getting rid of any blemishes that was on the models skin. the tool that i used for this was the spot healing bruch which got rid of them. once i did that, i then went on to Paint and started to draw over the picture i had just photoshopped.

Question three - Audience Feedback

Audience Feedback on Facebook

These are screen shots of some audience feedback that I had been given over the social networking site Facebook. As you can see from the feedback I have been given, they have all said positive comments about my music video. However, I will find out when I do some more audience feedback and ask questions on some of the things that I could have done better.

From the audience feedback that I have got, I have found that the music video fits in with the genre that I chose. Another thing that I found out from my questions that I asked was that the narrative of my music video is easy to understand, this is something that I wanted to happen because I didn’t want my music video to be random and for it to make no sense. I aimed my music video for people aged late teens early 20s, as you can tell from the audience feedback that I have got that other people thought that the age group should be early 20's. On one of the questions that I asked someone also said that they thought that it was also aimed at females. The reason for this was because of the fact that the females could easily relate to the storyline, which is about a girl getting ready to meet her boyfriend, and when she comes back from meeting him, you see that she is really upset, so you understand that something had happened. In my audience feedback one of my questions was 'Can you tell that my ancillary text goes with my music video?' all of the people had answered that you can tell. I am pleased that they were able to tell that my magazine advert, Digipak and my music video went together. The reason why you are able to tell that they all go together is because of the fact that the person in the advert, Digipak and in the music video is the same person. I thought that if I used different people then it would not follow the continuity and it would look different. I also used the pink flamingos for my background in both of my ancillary texts, because I thought that way would be another good idea to follow the continuity, and because the pink flamingos is such a bold part in the music video with it being in a lot of backgrounds for my video, the audience will remember it and when they see the magazine adverts and Digipak, they will know that it is from my music video.

Question Two

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?

For my ancillary text i used the performer (Beth Ludolf)  from my music video in both of my Digipak and my magazine advert. i got the font that i was going to use on both of my ancillary texts from the website Da Fonts. I also looked closely at different artists and their CD covers and their magazine adverts.
With my ancillary text, I was looking at different magazine advert of other artists adverts. The one that I had the most inspiration from was the Disclosure album cover with the fact that the person who is on their album cover had their faces drawn on over the top.
 disclosure-the-singles

As you can tell from the two pictures i have put on, with my Album cover and the picture that i have used on my magazine advert, that my picture has a similar resemblance to the picture to the right which is Disclosures. The reason why i have done this is because so when people see the advert or the album cover that they will know that it is the one that i have made because it is so significant and the fact that the audience will be able to tell that it is mine.

On the Digipak, I had to include, 6 pictures, one front cover, a back cover which is where the lyrics on, and three inside covers, two of which are where the CD's would go. The way in which i did it, was that for the from and the back of the Digipak, i used the performer that was in my music video, i then put on the name of the album on the front cover, which follows the conventions of a professional Digipak. On the back of the digipak, i put all of the songs on, this also follows the conventions of a Digipak, I used the songs off Delilahs original album because Delilah is the artist whose song i used. For the part in the Digipak where the two CD's go, i used the background of the main picture and copied it and stretched it to fit the appropriate size, i then went around the CD shape template and erased all of the bit that i did not need.

For the magazine advert, used the picture that was on my Digipak, i also used the writing that is also on my Digipak aswell. I looked at Ellie Gouldings magazine advert and Lana Del Reys and Delilah to try and get some inspiration from, to try and get my ideas for my advert.

The way in which i used these as inspiration was that I like the way in which the bold text was used, so i thought that it would be a good idea and that it would follow the conventions if i did my text bold and in the middle of the page.

Final Music Video

Question One

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In my Media Studies coursework, I had to make a music video to a song of my choice. The song I chose was 'Go' by Delilah. I did the music video by filming with my friend’s camera and I used one of my friends who I knew was going to be reliable. I thought that using a friend that was going to be reliable was a good idea. I started to plan what song I was going to do at the start of the term and
I did all of the other planning that I had to do between September and before the Christmas half term.
After the Christmas half time I started to film my music video, and after this, I started to edit what I had got. When I started to edit my music video, I realized that I did not have the music that went over the top of it. So what I did when I first went onto the editing suit that the media technician put me onto, I uploaded all of the footage that I had filmed and started to put it in the order that I wanted it to go in. The next day, I brought my memory stick which had my music on, I then had to virus check the memory stick to see whether or not it had any viruses on it. The reason why I had to do this was because if the memory stick did have a virus on it, then there would be a possibility that it could wipe out the whole of the editing suit and lose everyone's work. Once I had virus checked it, I then uploaded the music and placed it on the editing timeline. I then stared to crop and get rid of some of the footage that I had, because it either did not fit to the beat or I had to crop it to make it fit into the beat.

I found out the codes and conventions of music videos that artists had
already done, such as Delilah- Love You So ,Jessie Ware - Night Light  and Delilah - Inside My Love. I looked at theses to see what the themes and conventions that kept on appearing, this way I would get inspiration for my music video. When I was looking at all of the music
videos I notices that all of them had a narrative and a performance in it as well. So when I started to film my music video, I made sure that there was a narrative. When I started editing it was hard to make sure that I cut everything to the beat of the song, and that the narrative actually went with the song.   Another code and convention that I found of was that there were two types of forms of music videos, there was the performance side to a music video and also the narrative. Most of the music videos I have given as an example do have a performing side to it. I made sure that the performer in my music video was singing, I felt that this was going to be a vital part of my music video, even though there is not a lot of singing in it and that it is mostly a narrative that is happening I still felt that it would be important for there to be some performance in it.

Cinematography is a big part of the convention in electro/pop and trip hop  music videos, there are a lot of close ups used, for example in the images I have uploaded , they are all close ups of the artist singing, and that is exactly what I have done in my music video.

Since uploading my music video on 18th April 2013, there has been 100 views on my music video. this is a good way to see that my music video is being viewed by my audience. This also gives the chance for my audience the chance to comment on my music video, and it is another way for them to give me feedback other than social networking sites.

Magazine Advert AND step by step of how I did it

This is my magazine advert, in the image above it shows how step by step
